Allied Fields Option

To enrich the value of the major in English by doing focused work in an Allied Field, students have the option of taking four courses in one of the following fields: art history, classics (literature in the original language or in translation), history, philosophy, religion, theatre and the modern literatures (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish).

Students are expected to select four courses that seem relevant to, or that promise to complement, the study of English. In making the selections, a student must consult both with the major adviser in English and with a secondary adviser in the Allied Field. Students who successfully complete an Allied Field option will receive a certificate and a letter of recognition at the time of Commencement.
